ALOTTMENTS - SUMMER - HOT BEDS AND STUFF

We've had a truly amazing Summer and Autumn here in Perth, Scotland. I've been so lucky to spend a lot of it outside gardening and also lucky to have a great bunch of gardening clients to work with here in Perth, also in Fife and at an allotment site in Dundee. Here's a few photos of the Dundee site where there's maybe seventy or eighty allotments altogether, it's been fascinating working there getting an understanding of the politics of a big site and what kind of help people need, and lots of fun too.
The weather had left this polytunnel with a bit of lean to one side, so we just made the door with a bit of a lean as well
Experimental hot beds - this client is very keen to grow as much as she can through the whole year
The journey over to Dundee takes you through a real centre of Industrial Agriculture. This field has plastic covered furrows ready for soft fruit plants...
...in an industrial scale polytunnel operation.
I wonder how much of Perthshire and Fife is covered by mono-culture...
This is the Dundee committee-approved Way of Allotmenting - ranks of annual veg and never a weed.
Brilliant to see the all the stuff being re-used for sheds and covers etc
Great variety growing here, plus catch crops to give a succession of yields - the couple who garden here do have lots of experience but they were beginners once too.
This is one of my favourite allotments over there though, more Permacultural (and not much liked by the committee). Loads of yields and lots of herbs and flowers too, even some ragwort!
